The name and face of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan has became an instant celebrity in Malaysia. Well the dude got in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, of course not that he’s seeking such fame, if his allegations was true.

It is unlawful in Malaysia for a guy on guy action, or in his case, he accused an opposition politician Anwar Ibrahim of sodomising him. And of course the accused maintains that it was a lie made up by the ruling coalition who coaxed Mohd Saiful into accusing and pressing charges against him. Saiful happens to be Anwar former assistant by the way

Recently the plaintiff has posted a challenge on his Friendster social networking account. Oh my, of all sites why there? He issued a challenge to Anwar to swear on the Quran (Sort of like the Muslim version of the Bible) if he was not guilty of sodomy and allegation against Anwar be solved through a mubahalah.

Mubahalah is an old Islamic practice where the disputing parties would swear on the Quran to solve the matter. Anwar of course responded if Saiful wants the case to be solved by Islamic method, he should instead take him to a syariah court (Islamic court) rather than issue trivial challenges

The case is still pending and under investigation by the police. Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan is now in the custody of the police as he has reported received threats. The political rift in Malaysia is very volatile and I believe it could get worse. Good for tabloids do you say, I beg to differ
