Wesley Snipes, 45, has been sentenced to three years in prison for willful failure to file federal income tax returns

He was aggressively pursuing the maximum penalty by U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges as Snipes has exhibited a “history of contempt over a period of time” for U.S. tax laws

Snipes apologized and defended he was “unschooled … well-intentioned, but miseducated” on “the science of law and finance”.

He even roped in his family members and famous friends such as Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson, attesting to his good character and asking for leniency as he had no previous criminal record and the charges were misdemeanors

But that wasn’t enough as he was convicted on all his three convictions

Wesley Snipes reported made at least $13.8 million for the years in question and owed the government $2.7 million in back taxes
