Ike Turner who is more know for the successful musical partnership and abusive marriage to singer Tina Turner has died earlier this morning

He was 76 years old

He died at his home in California and has been credited for first Rock and Roll record, 1951’s “Rocket 88,”

He married Tina Turner in Mexico in 1962 and over the course of the next decade collaborated in a string of hits including the ground-breaking music

Tina Turner has accused Ike of violent abuse spanning several years, according to her 1996 autobiography. She left her husband in a 1978 divorce. While she got her peace, Ike kept all the money earned by the couple during their “Ike and Tina Turner” era

There was even a 1993 Hollywood film “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” about their rocky marriage and for years Ike has denied any allegations there was any beatings that severe, but has admitted he did slapped and throw a punch or two, but never a beating

Ike musical career plummeted during the 80s and was even jailed when he got into drugs. He was behind bars when he was induced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 which was surprisingly accepted by Tina.

After jail however, he reformed and got his life back. He won a Grammy this year for his work on blues album “Risin’ With the Blues.”
