Stephen King vs Stephenie Meyer
Famed American author Stephen King doesn’t think highly of ‘Twilight’ author Stephenie Meyer.
King who has sold around 350 million books, has made comparison between Paradise Valley’s author Meyer and Harry Potter’s author J.K. Rowling in a USA Weekend interview.
The 61 year old says Stephenie Meyer “can’t write worth a darn” while Rowling is a “terrific writer”.
Stephenie Meyer if you’re clueless is the author of the cult following novel about Vampires, which has turned into a movie recently.
I’ve been a fan of Stephen King’s books since like forever, and the truth is, I’ve never picked up Stephenie Meyer novels before, so I don’t know how’s her style is but I do know I’m not into those forbidden-love and teeny themed books which I’m getting the vibe from Meyer’s books, but however I did enjoy the movie Twilight based on her books.
Well I’m waiting how will Stephenie Meyer respond to King’s comments. Let the cat-fight begin … meeooww.

“Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.
People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it’s not particularly threatening because it’s not overtly sexual.
A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet.”

I love King for saying this. It’s TOTALLY true. I am in love with the Harry Potter series and it bothers me when people say that Twilight is good writing. I tried reading it and actually felt myself getting dumber while reading it. While the stories of the series’ cannot be compared to each other because they are so different, the writing in Harry Potter is what writing should be, unlike Twilight.
A book filled with spelling and grammatical errors cannot possibly be considered quality writing, and it is an insult to great authors like King and Rowling who have actually worked hard to become brilliant. Having a book published does not make you an author, it just means that there is someone who thought you have good ideas. Being a good writer is more than a good plot, but involves hours of dedication and skill. I think the fact that Meyers’ would-be new book in the series got leaked just proves that she’s nowhere near ready to claim herself as an author, and the world certainly isn’t ready to read anymore of her crap. Please, spare us all the pain, Stephanie!
Yep. That pretty much sums it up. Tho I will say I adore Stephen King, you don’t read his books, you watch them. His characters and relationships are so well rounded and you can really connect to them.
I will say I enjoyed the Twilight books. They are good fluff for when you don’t want to have to think and want some mindless enjoyment (much a like a Teen Chick flick).
You can’t put all the onus of piss poor grammar and spelling on just Stephanie Meyer…after all aren’t there supposed to be editors too? I’ve also noticed alot more grammar and spelling errors in books in general than before, perhaps it’s the printing but I also think the editors are falling down on the job.
