Oprah Winfrey was at the Toronto Film Festival for the premiere of her new movie ‘Precious.’
Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, originally known as Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire, is a 2009 drama film, adapted from the 1996 Sapphire novel Push about a teenage girl living in Harlem, who has been impregnated twice by her father and is withstanding a hurtful relationship with her mother.
The film premiered in January 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for best drama, as well as a Special Jury Prize for supporting actress Mo’Nique.
In February 2009, Tyler Perry announced that the film’s title had been changed to Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, which was confirmed soon afterwards by the film’s distributor Lionsgate. The change was made to avoid confusion with the 2009 action film Push.
