The Prisoner
The Prisoner is an upcoming 2009 television miniseries based on the 1960s TV series The Prisoner. It is produced by American cable network AMC in co-operation with British channel ITV.
The remake, in one form or another in the works since 2005, is now set to premiere on November 15, 2009 as a miniseries on AMC, in cooperation with British broadcaster ITV. The series will air in the UK in early 2010.
On 25 April 2008, ITV announced that a new series of The Prisoner would go into production, and in June 2008, that American actor James Caviezel will star in the role of Number 6, with Ian McKellen taking on the role of Number 2 in all six episodes.
Other cast members include Ruth Wilson as No. 313, Hayley Atwell as Lucy, Lennie James as No. 147 and Jamie Campbell Bower as No. 11-12, Number 2’s estranged son. Hayley Atwell is also cast as No. 4-15.
Plot
From the San Diego ComicCon trailer it is clear that the basic plot of the new series remains the same, a man awakening in a strange village, and some of the scenes appear to be directly based on scenes in the original series, for example, the Prisoner trying to purchase a map in the Village Shop.
A notable difference appears to be that the villagers (including the Prisoner) have been made to forget about the world outside of the Village. Other changes include the difference in the setting of the Village, the costumes, and the lack of badges.
